Synopsis
Breaking the fourth wall, Sean tells the true childhood story of how he came by his nickname after
immigrating to America from India. By examining the implications of moving to a new country, Sean
recounts a tale filled with deception, fraud – and even pink shoes.

Director

Sean Sankalp Raju
Sean Sankalp Raju is a Chicago-based director and producer. He cut his teeth on political filmmaking as the Director of Video for Daniel Biss in Illinois, and eventually as the video producer for Elizabeth Warrenʼs campaign.
In 2019, he created the popular web series, Chicagoʼs New Boss, where he documented the Chicago Mayoral race and interviewed candidates including Toni Preckwinkle and Alderman Andre Vazquez. His series was featured on Chicago Tonight, Politicoʼs Illinois Daily Playbook, and radio shows across the city.
A Nickname is his eleventh short film, and his most personal. His storytelling is couched in genre, character-driven, and strives to make sense of our deepest vulnerabilities. His work has been featured in festivals around the country and he is represented by OTV Studios. Sean graduated from the University of Chicago with a degree in physics.
